Interesting that you see this as 'Early Music'; makes me wonder if pibroch comes in the same category, but I suppose 'early' means that it hasn't been played of late ...

It's early enough for me and Piobaireach can be such a frightful bore without a large bottle of single malt, a delapidated castle in a mist filled glenn and the death of a loved one to mourn!

That hornpipe is a cracking tune though.

Hey Pete, where did you get that 17th c. hornpipe and what's it called?

Watcha, that hornpipe can be found at the bottom of page 12 of Pete's article on triple time hornpipes in the resources section of this site.

lbps.net/lbps/repertoire/154-the-triple-time-hornpipe.html

It's not named in this document.

That hornpipe came to me, as did many other wonderful things from the article by American Musicologist John Ward called 'The Lancashire Hornpipe' which was published in a collection of "Essays in musicology- a tribute to Alvin Johnson " and is at books.google.co.uk/books?id=VoQXAQAAIAAJ...e&q=hornpipe&f=false The tune is from a manuscript in the British Library MS15118, dated < 1625 and is titled 'A hornpipe'
