I took your GREAT IDEA! and made a long and regular length tube to imagine playing both. They both seemed fine, but part of why I also got the long besides wanting to play in the key of A is that I heard it sounds better. (?)
I've got an instructor now (first lesson is Thursday) and decided to get a poly Gibson long with Gibson reed. It hasn't arrived yet.
