The Lowland Hornpipe
Hardly any tunes in the Lowland repertoire have the term 'hornpipe' n their title. Jimy Allan, however, or so we are told, held the 3/2 form to have originated in the border regions and two classic forms of the time-signature appear in tunes in the repertoire. Historically, however, the hornpipe has been many things and the notation requires some careful interpretation if the authentic 'dird' is to reveal itself.

I've been planning to say something about the hornpipe, but till now haven't been able to figure out where to start.
